As another term comes to an end, we should celebrate the learning and opportunities that our students have had to support them and their individual success to date.
Within our Primary Sector we have had students and families engage with Pop Up Play, Greet and Games, Crazy Hair Day, Daily PE and in class learning experiences. The participation, learning and fun students display in these activities is evident across the board.
The Middle School throughout the term have participated in TPSSA Sport and NHSSA Wednesday rosters. Students have represented the school with pride, shown positive sportsmanship and we have seen growth in teamwork.
We have seen students benefit from initiatives from staff, promoting wellbeing every Wednesday morning in the Senior School. They have participated in yoga, bowling and mindfulness activities over the term.
We are so fortunate to have a strong and committed support team. We welcomed Anita Post to the team in the role as Chaplin this term and she value adds to the existing members of Jayne Watts - Youth Networker, Tom Millen - School Nurse, Sally Smith – Social Worker and Kate Jensen – School Psychologist. The work of this team in collaboration with our Student Support Teaching Staff, Cara Howlett, Rachel Mowat, Zoe Kay, Sarah Kuka, Laura Osten and James Conroy allow us to personalise learning and support students’ needs across the school.
We welcome to the Leadership Team Brendon Poke. Mr Poke is joining us from Prospect High School for Term 4 to lead the Primary Sector alongside Miss Knowles. He is looking forward to getting into classrooms and meeting parents this week.
We will farewell Ms Kilby and thank her for the commitment, care and teaching of our students over the past year. She will return to family in Queensland. We wish Ms Kilby well.
As we move into Term 4, we look forward to continuing our transition partnership with South George Town Primary School and building connections with all our students in Year 5/6. Last week we saw all students complete a tour and enjoyed milkshakes and a Q and A Session. We look forward to continuing this work next term.
Our Year 10’s are heading into a significant time of change and excitement, and staff have planned and mapped for the remainder of their Year 10 program. With college and Year 11 transitions, celebration events and a strong focus to learning outcomes remain a focus within classes and programs. Across the school we have started planning for all our key transitions and teachers are collaborating and formulating a range of support to do this effectively and fairly.
We had our DANCE EXTRAVAGANZA on Thursday, September 21st. It was a wonderful afternoon with students doing dances that they had been working on for weeks during Daily PE. Some of the dances were Agadoo, Achy Breaky Heart and Cha Cha Slide.

The Esk Band Program is a DECYP in-school instrumental music program that immerses students in a concert band experience. It provides students with an exciting and supportive opportunity to explore music through brass, woodwind and percussion performance. Once a week, students meet for a band rehearsal and to receive instrumental tuition with expert tutors in the areas.
We are looking for expression of interest from families that have children in Year 4 or above in 2024. Please phone Port Dalrymple School on 0363 820500 to register your child's name. More information to come.
Year 7 and 8 students were recognised today for their outstanding effort in core subjects.

Kinder students celebrated Crazy Hair Day on Tuesday. Members of the Junior Leadership Board, along with Jayne joined in on their favourite games, musical statues and duck duck goose.
Lunch time we went to Just Dance held in the Flinders Hall. Just Dance is a lunch time activity held every Tuesday.
Thank you to Kinder and Miss Salter for taking part, having fun and trying something new!

Seagulls to Chips – Thursday 14th September
Students from both Port Dalrymple School and South George Town Primary were selected to participate in a student leadership course. Along with Jayne, our Youth Networker, it was a day filled with fun activities and challenges.
The short course supported students to seize leadership opportunities in their school environment and be positive contributors within their community.
Andy Beeston, Project Officer – Our Futures – Future Impact Group was the facilitator. Susan, the Community Engagement Officer also supported the students as they navigated through what it means to be a leader.
Students explored Values, Role Models, Effective Leadership, A Listening Leader, Power and Influence of a Leader and Inspire and Aspire.
Thank you, Andy and Susan, for providing this opportunity for our Year 6 students. The future is bright in George Town.
Certificate II in Construction
CPC20220 Certificate II in Construction students have spent the past few weeks planning and preparing a space in the Years 1-3 playground in preparation for a Teepee to be installed. This required the scope of the area, dimensions, excavation, boxing, laying reo and calculating the volume of concrete required for the slab. This was a complete team effort under the instruction and guidance of TasTAFE Teacher Johann.

Boat Building Challenge - 3/4 Kilby
Miss Kilby’s 3/4 students have been setting sail in science with a boat building challenge. Part of the challenge was that their boat needed to be made from recycled materials, be able to float, and be able to hold at least 10 marbles. We were very surprised at how many boats held up to 251 marbles!!
They also learnt about many different natural and processed materials, and why certain materials are used for specific purposes (for example building a boat from cardboard, steel or wood). Some new vocabulary has been discovered too – opaque, rigid, absorbent, and translucent.
