Parent/Teacher/Student interviews
Thank you to the parent and guardians who came along to parent/teacher/student interviews. If you were unable to make the dates and times available, please be aware that you can contact the general office to make alternative arrangements to speak to your child’s teacher including a phone appointment if this is preferred. We really value the discussions we have been able to have with guardians in relation to student progress mid-year.

School Attendance
To get the most out of education, children need to go to school every day. School attendance has a major influence on educational outcomes at all grade levels. Students who attend school regularly are more likely to achieve better results at school and are more likely to complete their schooling.
At Port Dalrymple if your child is absent from school and the absence has not been explained a text message will be sent to the parent/guardian mobile phone. It is most important that if parent/guardian contact details change that the general office is notified.
Attendance alerts and letters are generated for students who have 5 or above unexplained absence. It is most important that parents/guardians respond to the letter to explain the absence where possible.
Students who are late to school must sign in at the general office and students must sign out at the general office when leaving with parents before 3.00pm.
Parents/guardians can encourage their child to attend school by having a positive attitude to learning and their child’s involvement in school activities. Lots of options are available for parents/guardians to engage in the school.
Poor school attendance patterns can start as early as Year 1. It is important that from the first day of school parents/guardians set an expectation that their child will be at school every day.
TIPS - THINGS YOU CAN DO TO SUPPORT SCHOOL ATTENDANCE
- Talk positively about attending school and learning
- Help your child get into a routine for getting ready to go to school stress-free
- Help your child to get ready for school in the morning
- Talk about the positive social aspect of the school environment:
- Friends
- Favourite classes
- Favourite teachers
It is most important if you have a question regarding the attendance report or your child has unexplained absences which can be explained that you contact the school on the above number.

Tuesday 17th August PRIDE Assembly
Term Three has seen plenty of rain, wind and gloomy weather, however this has not stopped the K-4 Sector from enjoying their learning and having fun at school.
In Year 3-4C students have been learning about how things were preserved naturally in the past. They have been inquiring about fossils and the people who discover them. Palaeontology is the study of what life was like a long time ago. Palaeontologists search for and study fossils.
Here are some things the students learned:
“Palaeontologists use lots of tools to find fossils like rock hammers, brushes and dental picks.” (Amelia)
“Palaeontology is messy!” (Lachlan)
“Palaeontologists use toilet paper to wrap up their fossils.” (Marley)
Year Five students have been joining Kinder each morning to help with throwing and catching. This practice is valuable in helping develop the students’ skills. Both the Kinder kids and Sport Leaders are having a lot of fun.
This week in Cultural Arts students have been learning about warm and cold colours. With pencils students drew a graph and on one side had the sun for warm colours and the other side the moon for cold colours. In the spirit of the Olympics, Mr Austin gave out a Gold medal to Sarah, with Silver and Bronze to Kate and Nelson for their amazing art creations.

Future Impact Group
On Tuesday July 20 we had the great opportunity to meet with George Town council members, community members and Grace from the Future Impact Group.
In the time that we had with the Future Impact Group we discussed how we can make the future of George Town better. We split up into five groups and were asked a multiple questions including how we can make George Town a better place for the upcoming generations. We discussed different ideas on how we can make George Town reach its full protentional.
We met with the Port Dalrymple Senior student leadership board as well as student leaders from South Georgetown. Port SLB members took notes, contributed ideas on how we can hep the community of George Town become a better place and hosted the meeting.
We are very grateful that we had the chance to meet with the council and Future Impact Group and hope to be able to do it again.

Reading Certificates
Well done to all students who received reading certificates at the K-6 assembly. It was fantastic to award so many reading certificates. Keep up the reading!
Year 10 students will be participating in subject examinations this term. The exams are an opportunity for our students to develop study and organsational skills to prepare them for exams in Years 11/12 and other assessments that they may undertake in the future. The exams will also provide our senior students with the opportunity to demonstrate their understandings and knowledge in each subject.
The examination period will begin Friday July 30th and conclude on Thursday August 5th
Exams will be conducted in all core Australian Curriculum subjects:
- Mathematics
- Science
- English
- HASS (History and Geography)
- Health and Physical Education
Exams will take place in designated senior school classrooms.
On behalf of the Port Dalrymple School community we would like to thank South32 and the George Town Council for providing the financial resource that has enabled the school to purchase laptop computers for students.
The initiative will ensure students, primarily in Years 3-9 will have a device for learning which they can take home. It will enable students to stay connected to their learning, to the wider school community and provide opportunities for teachers to support and extend students learning throughout the year.
Families of students in Years 3-9 who do not have a suitable device for learning can ring the general office to loan a school laptop. The general office will complete a loan form for the student and then the device can be collected at any time from Monday – Friday during school hours 9.00am-3.00pm. Please ensure you follow social distancing procedures when you enter the school administration area.
This is a wonderful initiative for the families in George Town.
Students at Port Dalrymple School look wonderful when wearing their school uniform. We are in the process of purchasing for the senior school blue navy pants. For our junior school we have two options for trousers: the blue navy track pants or blue cargo pants and both are in stock at the school general office. We encourage parents/guardians to purchase the blue pants from the school.
