Football Umpiring Course
Thank you to Jayne Watts and Tom Mcintee who coordinated the football umpires course in Term 2. Over several weeks students in years 6-10 who expressed an interest in football umpiring had the opportunity to undertake the basic accredited course. Included in this week's newsletter are a number of photos of the students participating.

Staff Changes
In Term 3 we do have some staffing changes. Stuart Austin has won the position of Acting K-4 Assistant Principal.
We welcome Lillian Males to Port Dalrymple School as the Acting AST of Years 5-8 and Robert Johns will be the Acting AST of Years 9-12.
Students at Port Dalrymple School look wonderful when wearing their school uniform. We are in the process of purchasing for the senior school blue navy pants. For our junior school we have two options for trousers: the blue navy track pants or blue cargo pants and both are in stock at the school general office. We encourage parents/guardians to purchase the blue pants from the school. Pictures and prices are included in the newsletter.
Reports and Parent/Teacher/Student Interviews
Mid-year reports will be sent home with students at the end of Term 2. Parent/Teacher/Student interviews are held in week 1 and 2 of Term 3.
We are extremely pleased with the progress and attitude of all students and we ask that both students and parents/guardians come to the interviews in Term 3. These sessions are a very important opportunity for both parents, teachers, and students to formally get together to discuss aspects of learning to date and to set some shared goals for the remainder of the year. Details on how to book an appointment with your child’s teacher will be sent home with the reports.
Please see attached information on how to book a Parent/Teacher/Student interview – this was also sent home with reports.

Students in Kinder to Year 4 have been focusing on their learning this term. The 3/4 students have been investigating the Earth, looking at how day and night occurs and the impacts the weather can have on the Earth’s surface. The 1/2's have been researching and writing information reports for some of their favourite animals and the Prep/1’s have been practising their number skills. In Kinder, they have just completed their first Kindergarten Development Check and are focusing on speaking, talking and asking questions.

Humans are destroying this planet
I strongly believe that we need to stop destroying this planet. We are destroying Earth by littering and reducing our air quality. Our natural wilderness is decreasing rapidly through logging. Why would we want to destroy this beautiful planet?
Firstly, you must certainly agree that people are committing a crime by littering and harming our animals. For example, we see birds all the time with plastic around their necks! We need to act now! We need a healthy ecosystem!
I am absolutely positive, that we need to stop destroying our remaining wildness. Sadly in 2020, we had recorded only 35% remaining wildness on our planet. It’s devastating that we have reduced the wildness by 31% in 84 years!
We must act now, our carbon emissions into the atmosphere is rising dramatically fast! In 1937 our carbon in the atmosphere was at 280 parts per million. In 2020 our carbon in the atmosphere had rapidly risen to 415 parts per million, this is unreal!
To conclude with my argument on saving our planet, we must look out for our carbon emissions which is at an all time high and action needs to be taken. Logging needs to stop and dumping waste into the ocean! You are now left with no choice but to agree with me that we are destroying this planet.

5-6 Junior Leadership Board-Assembly Speech
Hi, my name is Hunter, and this is Ella we are both presidents of the JLB. The JLB is a group of 5/6 students who have been elected for being good role models. Throughout the year we are going to be completing a number of different activities such as breakfast club, fundraising, assemblies, values tickets, porty credits and Just Dance Tuesdays.
For breakfast club, we ring each class teacher ask for orders, prepare the cereal and milo. Jayne Watts is such a big help to all of us as JLB members as well as the early primary school students. Jayne always makes us laugh, thank you.
In the Kinder to year 6, sector assemblies the Junior Leadership Board write the script, create the power point, are tech crew and set up the Performing Arts Centre. We have hosted six assemblies so far with classes sharing their learning. We have had different sharing items, from science experiments in Mrs Evan’s class to HASS in Mrs Miller’s class and a Stressica Performance in Miss Allan’s class.
To celebrate success, we have Porty credits and values tickets. The JLB members are responsible for collecting values tickets and Porty credits in the morning of each assembly. Students are pulled out at random by Miss Kuruivita to select a prize from the JLB prize box. The leaders take the prize box around to each winner.
Every Tuesday, members of the JLB organise Just Dance in Flinder’s Hall with Jayne. We first have a meeting to organise the play list and make sure that all of the songs are fun and exciting for Prep to year 6 students. Songs and just dances have included WAKA WAKA, Frozen and Got The Power.
One of our positive achievements so far this year is being able to receive over $6000 dollars in funding from Sporting Schools Australia for Daily PE equipment.
We would like to thank Jayne for helping us during our leadership meetings and we are looking forward to what we can achieve in the second half of the year.
Design and Technology Year 5/6
Term 2
The year 5/6 students have worked on designing, planning, creating, testing and improving games made out of sustainable and recycled materials.
Monday and Tuesday afternoon this week has been all about sharing our finished games with the younger students.
We have enjoyed the process and would like to thank everyone involved.

Primary State Cross Country - Symmons Plains
Tuesday 22nd June
A group of keen Port Dalrymple students left a foggy George Town to travel to a sunny Symmons Plains on Tuesday 22nd June for the Primary All Schools Cross Country Carnival. There are schools from all over the state at this event with all races having over 200 students participating. It is fantastic students took the step of representing the school at this level and I commend them for their efforts. The following students took part in this event with some doing extremely well and finishing in the top 100 or very close to.

Our Futures George Town – Celebratory announcement at Port Dalrymple - Friday 18 June.
On Friday 19 June Port Dalrymple was delighted to host the Future Impact Group’s announcement of ‘Our Futures George Town’ a five-year youth participation project funded by the Tasmanian Community Fund. The project will support young people to become active and valued members of the community. We would also like to acknowledge George Town Council for their financial commitment to this project, and the Beacon Foundation for their ongoing support and partnership through the Collective Ed. project.
'Our Futures George Town' was brought together in response to community voice, as part of a collaborative partnership between community members and partners of the Future Impact Group. This project will allow young people in the George Town region to build new skills, gain confidence, share their voices, and take an active part in creating the futures they want to see in the area.
Thanks to our students who were involved in helping with the final stages of the submission and to our wonderful Year 9/10 Hospitality class led by Dan Mohor, for the excellent service at morning tea.
A highlight for our students, was being able to meet the Minister for Education, the Honourable Sarah Courtney MP, Sally Darke, Chair of the Tasmanian Community Fund and community representatives from the Future Impact Group. The Minister enjoyed speaking with our students about their Hospitality course and Jorden also shared with her what it is like undertaking an Apprenticeship and Traineeship for School-aged Learners (ApTSL). All guests were impressed with the skills and confidence our students exhibited back and front of house. Well done to all involved!
